Steven M. Mayer
Steven M. Mayer is a Southern California lawyer with a general business practice emphasizing the areas of bankruptcy and insolvency law (creditors and debtors, federal and state courts); business transactions, including business formation, contracts and general counseling; real estate transactions; creditor rights; landlord-tenant law; and civil litigation.
Steve is rated "AV Preeminent" by Martindale Hubbell, the highest possible rating for an individual lawyer in both legal ability and ethical standards.
As a bankruptcy lawyer, Steve represents businesses and individuals, creditors and debtors, and borrowers and lenders, in restructure, refinance, and insolvency litigation, including state court, federal court, bankruptcy court and in non-judicial Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors proceedings. Steve is also experienced in representing third parties interested in purchasing assets out of bankruptcy.
As a transactional lawyer, Steve represents clients in the selection and formation of new business entities; negotiates and drafts critical contracts, leases, and operating agreements; and advises and protects his clients' interests in general business disputes.
As a trial lawyer, Steve represents individuals and publicly and privately held entities in a variety of federal court and state court matters, including business disputes, contract disputes, real estate matters, federal and state court receiverships, consumer finance matters, collection actions, fraudulent and preferential transfer actions, wrongful foreclosure, and lender liability claims.
Based in Southern California, Steve frequently appears in the courts of Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange and Riverside Counties, including courthouses located in the Beverly Hills, Malibu, Santa Monica, San Fernando Valley, Woodland Hills and Van Nuys areas.
Steve is a Business Law Fellow of the American Bar Association, Business Law Section, co-Chair of its Advisors Program, and a past-Chair of its Young Business Lawyers. Steve is also a long time, active member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and a past-Chair of its Bankruptcy Law Section. Steve has served and continues to serve on numerous American Bar Association and Beverly Hills Bar Association committees in elected or appointed positions.
Steve received his Juris Doctor degree from the Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is admitted to practice in all California state and federal courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
