Frederick J. Glassman is a co-founder and senior partner of Mayer & Glassman Law Corporation, assisting clients throughout Southern California in the full scope of family law matters, including divorce and pre-marital agreements. Fred focuses his practice on consensual methods of dispute resolution, rather than litigation, to settle family law disputes.

Fred's goal is to bring closure for divorcing couples while maintaining their dignity and respect for each other.  He regularly conducts mediations for the Los Angeles County Superior Court, acting both as a coach for mediation trainings and as a consulting attorney in mediations.  In addition to being a frequent speaker and instructor on collaborative practice and mediation issues, he is the President of the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association (LACFLA) and authored a bi-monthly column for the LACFLA Newsletter entitled "Ask Dr. Cole A. Borative."

In July, 2007 Fred was featured in The Los Angeles Daily Journal lead article entitled "Collaborative Divorce Booms as Method to Ease the Parting."  His review of Family Code 2013, recognizing collaborative law in California, appears as the leading article for the September 2007 issue of Lexis-Nexis California Law Monthly.

Fred is an instructor for the UCLA Extension Department of Legal Programs, teaching the courses "Collaborative Practice: An Appropriate Model for Dispute Resolution" and "Dispute Resolution in Family Law: Collaborative Practice and Mediation."  He was a featured panel member for "The Consulting Attorney as Chameleon: Adapting to the Landscape of Family ADR Practice" at the 2006 American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution Conference; at the 2007 ABA Conference he was the featured panel member for "An ADR Family Law Primer: How to Effectively Communicate with your Clients", and for "ADR opportunities for Families in Crisis" at the 2010 ABA Conference.

Fred was the moderator and featured panel member at the 2005 International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Annual Networking and Educational Forum for the program "From Talk the Talk to Walk the Walk: Enrolling the Client,"  a featured panel member for "A Not So Funny Thing Happened on the Way To and From the Altar" at the 2006 IACP Conference, and for "When Termination is Invevitable" at the 2010 IACP Conference.  He was a featured panel member for the American Bar Association "Representing the High Profile Client" in 2003; for the Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association "Enrolling the Client in the Collaborative Law Process" in 2004; and for the Seminar Group "Alternate Dispute Resolution - Prepare the Client" in 2005.

Fred appeared on the Time Warner Public Television shows "Collaborative Practice: the Sensible, Safe, and Sensitive Way to Divorce" in 2008, "Changing the Face of Divorce - New Century, New Beginnings" in 2005, and on "What is Collaborative Law" in 2002.

Fred continues to present his protocol on enrolling clients in collaborative law as a featured panel member for "All Roads Lead to Collaborative Law."  He authored "A Lawyer's Roadmap for the Collaborative Law Model" for the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Journal in the Spring of 2006, and "Family Law" for the Witness Chair Quarterly, a publication of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants in 2007.

In June of 2007, Fred presented "Collaborative Law - The Optimum Fit for Financial Professionals" at the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts Fourteenth Annual Consultants Conference.

Fred wrote a leading article on collaborative practice entitled "Advocacy Redefined" for the January 2008 issue of LawDragon, a national publication; and the article entitled "The Uniform Collaborative Law Act - Today and Tomorrow" for the Family Law News - Official Publication of the State Bar of California in 2010. Fred's Chapter in the 2010 Thomas Reuters book is "Collaborative Law: A Way to Resolve With Respect". He serves on the Board of Directors for the California Dispute Resolution Council and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America® and is listed in Martindale Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers with their highest "AV" peer rating.  He is the recipient of the 2008 State of California Collaborative Practice "Eureka Award" for outstanding service, and was named in Southern California's Best Lawyers 2009, 2010 & 2011 Editions for Collaborative Family Law and Mediation.

Endorsements:

“Fred Glassman cares! That's what makes him so special. His approach to collaboration focuses on divorce resolution with a proper balance of both the law and the equities, in a transparent and cost effective manner. He means it when he commits to the collaborative process with the divorcing couple, no matter the ebb and flow of the process, knowing full well that litigation is the default result of failure. Fred brings the courage of his conviction and strength of his intellect and broad specialized experience to the uniqueness of each step in the collaborative process, which no doubt is the reason for his enviable track record of collaborations successfully completed.”

Michael Carter,
Executive Vice President,
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Dole Food Company, Inc.

"Fred Glassman, Esq. is in a class by himself among lawyers today: he is both an ambassador and results-oriented advisor.  As an ambassador, he brings out the good will in people, and brings parties together.  And he digs deep to provide results through actions, not just words.  He follows through to the bitter end, to concretely and finally resolve conflict.  He sees the positive side to things, and understands the people issues and dynamics of personalities in a way that most cannot.  In today's world of litigation, Fred helps solve the problem through mediation and collaboration in a very positive manner that positions the parties for a lasting, long term resolution."
